The Story

What it's about

“I kept asking life for answers while the answer held my hand.”

“It’s A Spiral” came from realizing that growth rarely happens in a straight line. We return to the same questions, relationships, fears and patterns, sometimes wondering why we’re back somewhere we thought we had already moved beyond.

That’s where the spiral came from. What looks like going in circles may actually be growth, returning to something familiar from a different place within ourselves.

The song is about trusting that process, while learning to accept and love yourself wherever you happen to be in it. Not just the healed version, or the person you hope to become, but who you are right now.

I believe real change begins there. The more honestly we can love and accept ourselves, the more capable we become of healing, loving others and showing up in a way that makes the world around us a little better.

We’re not moving in circles. We’re moving through a spiral.

Full lyrics

[Verse 1] I've changed a thousand times Without going anywhere Some doors closed behind me Some led me back in I've watched whole years disappear And moments somehow stay The things I thought would break me Just changed me on the way Looking back, I see it now Through every rise and fall I wasn't losing who I was I was becoming through it all [Pre-Chorus] Maybe we don't move in circles Maybe that's just how it seems You come back to the same old lesson Standing somewhere you've never been [Chorus] It's a spiral Not a straight line home Every turn brings me closer To the things I've always known Love without holding Give without keeping score Let what comes move through me I don't have to fight it anymore If there's somewhere we're going Maybe I've been looking too far The only place I've ever found it Is exactly where we are [Verse 2] I've been the wounded I've been the wound I've been the one who left too early And the one who stayed too long I've mistaken fear for wisdom Pride for something to defend I've asked love to make me whole When I hadn't met myself yet Every heartbreak left a doorway Every victory left one too Funny how the highs and lows Keep pointing back to you [Chorus] It's a spiral Not a straight line home Every turn brings me closer To the things I've always known Love without holding Give without keeping score Let what comes move through me I don't have to fight it anymore If there's somewhere we're going Maybe I've been looking too far The only place I've ever found it Is exactly where we are [Bridge — pull back] Maybe anger is an echo Maybe grief remembers more Maybe every version of me Still walks through the same door The child, the fool, the broken man Still breathing through me now I don't need to leave them behind I can love them where they are No yesterday in this breath No tomorrow in these hands Just the weight beneath my feet And the place where I now stand [Instrumental — space] [Final Chorus] It's a spiral And I finally understand I kept asking life for answers While the answer held my hand Every loss and every wonder Every door I couldn't see Wasn't pulling me away It was bringing me to me And the closer I get inward The less it's only mine What I heal becomes how I love What I love moves down the line So if there's somewhere we're going I don't need to know how far I'm not waiting to arrive now I am here [Outro] Let it come Let it go Feel it move Let it flow Another turn And still we're one
