What it's about
“Some stories ended so new ones could too. And Gunnar kept rolling.”
“When The Trade Winds Changed” is the next chapter of Gunnar’s story, but underneath it is something nearly everyone experiences, the quiet realization that childhood doesn’t end all at once.
Jeremy is gone, Bee moves away, and yet the waves still break, the sunsets still come, and life keeps moving. That contrast is really the heart of the song. Sometimes the moments that change us don’t feel significant while they’re happening. Only later do we realize we crossed into a new season.
The trade winds became a metaphor for change itself. We can’t control when they shift, and holding tighter won’t make them blow the way they used to.
There’s sadness in letting a chapter close, but there’s beauty in it too. Growing up means learning to carry what mattered with you, while staying open to whatever the wind brings next.
